A Madlib

Students have been studying nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs for the last several weeks. Just this morning we wrote this Madlib together. I wrote the story, and students helped me fill in the funny parts of speech (in all-caps).

We'll begin writing our own Madlibs tomorrow. Enjoy!

No Ordinary Day

One NICE and HOT FEBRUARY morning, our teacher MR. CHARLIE gathered us, his students, around the RUSSIA. He told us about the BLUE day we were about to have and said it would be FUN! Today was no ordinary CATERPILLAR. Today was FLUFFY.

Instead of writing, we'd be going to PIZZA HUT. Instead of math, WE'D PLAY WITH OUR DOGS. For lunch: ICE CREAM. After school we'd get on a plane with ABRAHAM LINCOLN and JUSTIN BIEBER and fly to CANADA. MR. CHARLIE was the most PURPLE teacher ever! We couldn't wait to start our AWESOME BILL GATES together!

Mural Project: Finished Products!

A big "THANK YOU" to Mrs. McCowen for all of her work teaching us how to paint salamanders and snakes. The results are 100% kid work, mentored by a wonderful art teacher.

Our math aid, Matt, took the following pictures of our proud/happy/excited/stoic/goofy artists. If you don't see your child, check back for updates.

Rock Collections

Please encourage your geologist to collect diverse and interesting rocks to add to their collection of 18. We're busy identifying our rocks and diversity in shape, color, hardness and origin is definitely more interesting.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Thursday we welcomed guests from a local Chinese immersion program. We celebrated the first day of Chinese New Year with a performance from their students, including poems, ribbon dance, fan dance, a doll dance and Chinese yo-yo's. We were mesmerized by the bright costumes and wonderful performances by all. In addition, we were taught a few Mandarin words!

Mural Art, Day #4

Our tiles are painted and ready for final touch-ups! Mrs. McCowen will be coming in all this week to work with small groups of students. This one-on-one time is so important so that students feel proud of their work and ready to install it on our walls for years to come.

Here's Mrs. McCowen helping Lauren, Anna, Madeline and Lilly put their finishing touches on their work.

Mural Art, Day #2

Today's art was so busy I didn't even think to take pictures! After sketching a few versions of our snakes and salamanders, we picked our favorite and transferred it to our tile to begin painting tomorrow. We even had time to practice brush strokes with our paint and brushes. What a fun day we had!

Thanks to Lucy M, Sadie and Everett's moms for all of their help.

The beginning, a snake sketch ready for painting.
