A Corbett Tradition

Kindergartners at Corbett get to experience a tradition dating back decades: Big Bear's Deli and Pumpkin Patch!

Students get to pick out a pumpkin and enjoy a snack at Big Bear's Deli. Even in typical Fall weather (pouring down rain) students had a great time!

A big thank you to Phil Dufresne, Balwant "Bullet" Bhullar and Barb Tobey for making this a memorable day for our kindergartners! Thanks to brave parents who came along and helped our muddy students enjoy their experience.

"Look Ms. Tucker, I'm crossing my eyes!"

Can you sense the excitement?

It's raining and the mud is deep!

Pumpkin Math

Ms. Tucker's math group spent the week immersed in "pumpkin math". We estimated the weight of our pumpkins, the circumference and the number of seeds each would have. We were all surprised to find that our smaller pumpkin had 174 more seeds than the pumpkin twice its size!

Here are some photos of our messiest day, where everyone was assigned a task: scoopers, sorters and counters. Quite the task, but we managed to count all 814 seeds! We'll also get to taste them roasted and even watch our pumpkins decompose over the next several months.

Sticky, gooey goodness!

Counting slimy seeds turned out to be quite the challenge

Trip to Hood River

Last Thursday we loaded up on a bus and headed to Rasmussen Farm in Hood River. We were grateful to have a beautiful, clear and sunny day to enjoy the farm. We started the day by picking out our very own pumpkin to take home! As long as we could carry/roll it to the bus, it could be ours.

Next we headed to the "Where's Waldo" themed corn maze. Our challenge: Find all 9 Where's Waldo scenes and find him amidst the other painted gourds. We also enjoyed a haunted hut and a pumpkin funland.

After lunch at the farm we headed to a beautiful viewpoint to enjoy the view of Hood River Valley. From that vantage point we could see many orchards. While we couldn't see the Columbia River, we could see where the Gorge cut through. Very beautiful!

I will continue to add photos to this post, so check back for updates!
